Athletes with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics improve physical fitness and motor skills, develop self-esteem and confidence, make friends and increase family support. Special Olympics Michigan athletes carry these benefits with them into their daily lives at home, in the classroom and on the job. Families become stronger as they learn a greater appreciation of their athlete’s abilities and community volunteers find out what a good friend the athletes can be.
Local athletes from Kent County will participate in the Grand Rapids Marathon for the very first time as a relay team this year. The confidence they built on the track during our spring sports season and through cross country programs at their schools will be put to the test on the GR Marathon course. Please help us support them.
We welcome you to run with us or donate to our cause -- to provide a quality sports program and the opportunity for inclusion and equality. Thank you for your consideration!
