Team Schadler's Cancer Crushers!
Organized by: Family and Friends of John Schadler
John is a hardworking, dedicated husband and father of 2 young children. He was diagnosed in March 2013 with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After 4 months of going through chemotherapy and radiation he was in complete remission.
In July 2014 a follow-up scan was done only to discover the cancer had returned in his abdomen. This was totally unexpected by everyone, including his doctors. Treatment was more intense this time. It included chemo for 3 days as an inpatient every 3 weeks, followed by a PET scan. Once in remission, a stem cell transplant was started harvesting cells from his own body. This required 2-1/2 weeks in the hospital. This was very difficult on him both mentally and physically, taking him away from his family, as well as his job. After the transplant, recovery was another 3 months.
A follow-up scan in Feb. 2015 showed he was still in complete remission. We were optimistic that the cancer was finally gone for good. That jubilation was short lived when a routine scan in Sept. revealed the cancer had returned in the same spot, his abdomen. We were all devastated. John will be going through additional chemo followed by another stem cell transplant using a donor’s stem cells. It comes with a whole different set of risks. At this time, with a 3 to 4 week hospital stay, plus recovery at home, he is looking at being out of work for at least 6-12 months, but, according to the doctor, realistically 12 months.
His job has supported him through all of this by ensuring employment after he recovers, but his time off work will be unpaid. He will be working through the chemo treatments until the transplant to be able to provide for his family. At that point he will be out of work. Beating cancer again is not a big fear of his, but not being able to provide for the family by paying bills and putting food on the table is. This fundraiser is to help decrease the financial stress on the family and help him better focus on beating cancer AGAIN!
We are grateful for prayers and any amount you may be able to donate. Thank you for helping us fight cancer!
We love you all and God Bless!
