BENEFITING: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
ORGANIZER: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
First off, I have to say that I am SO honored to have been chosen to be part of the John Ritter Foundation NYC marathon team... and it will be my first marathon!!
What lead me here....On October 12, 2012, my active "healthy" boyfriend, Cliff, very suddenly presented symptoms of a heart attack. After being rushed to hospital, they treated him immediately for a heart attack. After discovering it was in fact NOT the case, some more tests were done and it was discovered that he had "fluid" around his heart. But due to the fact that he was given a VERY powerful and high dose of blood thinner, (bc they treated as heart attack when it wasn't) the doctors decided to wait until the morning to do any surgery to "relieve heart of fluid". An hour later, it was too late. Cliff died on October 13th, 2012 at the age 42, to an undetected aortic tear and it ruptured VERY quickly. It was unrepairable. A horrific night that I will never forget.
Only days later, a friend said "isn't that what John RItter died from??" ... and my journey and obsession began. To pay tribute to a great man, and honestly to save myself, I planned to run my first HALF marathon in June 2013 in Lake Placid, NY and raise money to go to the JRF. I created my own "team" to join me- "Run for CK" consisted of my sister & brother in law and dear friends of mine & Cliff's. I also hosted some fundraisers, including a "Paint and Sip" in Saratoga Springs, NY. There was nothing I could do to change what had happened the morning of Oct. 13th, but it became my mission to spread the word, create knowledge, inform and educate. And bust my bum, have fun and heal at the same time.
Which now has lead me to this honor... Team John Ritter.....Yay!! This will be an awesome adventure!! To pay tribute to all those lost and all those who survived. And hopefully, the many more lives to yet to be saved. Let the training begin.
