BENEFITING: Team Muscle Makers for UCMD
ORGANIZER: Team Muscle Makers for UCMD
EVENT DATE: Aug 31, 2017
I'm coming up on my fourth anniversary for running for Team Muscle Makers for Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (UCMD). I became part of this team after meeting Melissa, the mother of a young boy, Parker, who was diagnosed with UCMD at the age of 2. Parker is only one year older than Cade, which really hits home with me.
UCMD is a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy and is considered to be a slowly progressing, life-limiting form of MD. The money raised goes directly to the MD clinic at Rady's Children's Hospital (in San Diego), where Parker received treatment.
I know that, with my tumor history, I am lucky to be able to run. More importantly, I know how lucky I am to have a child who can freely run. It is terrifying to think that there are children out there who may not be as fortunate - and there are mothers out there who may have to watch them suffer. I know that I am fortunate to have a healthy child who does not need doctors and hospitals and treatments.
For this race, I will run the Disneyland 10K on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday, to complete the Disney Dumbo Dare Challenge. I believe this will be my seventh race with TMM (it may be more?). Cade is not running with me this time, but has committed to helping me raise money and joining in on some of the shorter training runs. Cade and I are grateful for this opportunity to run together and to raise money together. It is our small way of showing that we are so grateful for all that we are able to do.
Please consider supporting our efforts.
