Named for Martin’s initials and his favorite sports number, Team MR8 was formed as a means for marathon runners to raise needed funds for the advancement of the Foundation’s mission and values. During the weeks after Martin’s death, Little League teams began their season in Dorchester and the surrounding neighborhoods. Many of Martin’s friends and teammates wrote his initials on the sides of their hats to honor Martin in their first season without him. The Foundation thought it fitting that their team of runners also honor Martin by wearing his initials and number.
The support from Team MR8 and from the larger community of runners for our family, and in honor of our son Martin, continues to be tremendously uplifting for us and for all those who knew and loved Martin. Our main source of income for the Foundation is from marathon team fundraising. All of us at the Foundation could not be prouder of or more grateful for our Team MR8 runners and their supporters! Your donation allows us to continue to make an impact through the athletic, educational, and community bridge building activities of our organization.
