Hello friends, family, co-workers and other wonderfully awesome people reading my fundraising page! I've been goaded into running the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon, and my training is coming along quite well. However, I'm still scared to death when I consider the looming date of May 4! In order to get over my fear, I've decided to run the marathon for a wonderful charity. I think that will help me get up those hills and across the bridges when I feel like giving up!
I've picked a charity that means a lot to me -- Imagine No Malaria. As many of you know, when you add it up, I've spent spent nine months of my life in various countries in Africa -- Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Kenya. In every single one of those countries, adults and children die daily from a preventable disease: malaria. It preys on the young and most vulnerable. Nearly 90 percent of malaria’s victims are children under the age of 5 and pregnant women. It’s robbing families of sons and daughters, literally stealing the future of Africa. It saddens me that I was able to easily avail myself of antibiotics and bed nets while millions are exposed to malaria without these simple safeguards.
Imagine No Malaria is an extraordinary effort of the people of The United Methodist Church to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother. Imagine No Malaria has a comprehensive model that utilizes Prevention, Treatment, Education, and Communications.
Please help me with my fundraising goal. I really want to raise at least $500.00 to help Imagine No Malaria. Anything you can contribute would make such a difference. Thanks in advance for your help!
