EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
Hello family and friends,
What better way to start 2012 than to' bring new hope and a healthier future to people everywhere who suffer from debilitating conditions affecting sight, hearing, voice, balance, taste and smell and cancers of the eye, head and neck'.
As we jump into 2012 lets make a difference together! Starting the New Year can be a time for reflection and a time to look to the future. You may ask yourself what can I do to bring joy into my life or how can I bring joy to others? Joy and happiness comes in many forms. Spending time with family and friends, seeing beautiful things, hearing wonderful tunes, eating delicious foods, lending a helping hand.
Most often I can find a sense of joy when I am out running. Doing something I love to do. Enjoying the scenery and hearing the surrounding sounds. My mind runs free with thoughts and I feel like I can conquer anything that might dare to get in my way.
I remember when I found out my son Danny did not pass his hearing test at his 4 year check up. The next morning when I went out for a run I said to myself whatever this brings to us we'll be able to handle it. They sent him to Mass Eye and Ear and found he had a 30 % hearing loss. Luckily all he needed was minor surgery. Life went on.
Since we had affiliation with Mass Eye and Ear, this past fall we were invited by friends to MEE's annual fundraising gala. We attended and it was one of the most moving and motivatioal nights of my life. The stories that were told on surgeries being preformed to give patients who have never heard anything in their life an opportunity to hear and how they are using GPS like equipement to allow people to see who have never seen. AMAZING! What struck me was the persistence of the reseachers to make head way. The bravery and calm of the patients who are ever so hopeful to have results.
I am running the Boston Marathon because I know I can help out and give back. Bring JOY. And get this...you can help out too and you don't even have to run! I love to run but I dislike asking for help. Especially asking for money. I feel whole hearted that my commitment to raise $6000 is for an amazing cause. Please consider helping out.
I look forward to running over the finish line on April 16th knowing that you and I have made a difference. Thank you!
