One marathon down, one to go!
On Sunday, October 8, I crossed the finish line of the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon (after a rough second half), and on Sunday, October 15, I will run the 2017 PNC Milwaukee Marathon! That's right-- two marathons, one week apart!
I'm running these marathons with Team CCO, the charity fitness team for Cornerstone Community Outreach. This is a Chicago based social service agency that provides shelter to families and individuals, over 330 people each night. Every $4 in donations provides ONE NIGHT of shelter for an individual (the shelter is located near Broadway & Wilson, in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood). How about providing for ten shelter nights? Or an entire month? Or more?
In 2016 alone, Cornerstone Community Outreach provided or assisted with the following:
* 269 people went from Homeless to Housed
* 48 people gained employment
* 200,000+ plates of food served
* 311 Birth Certificates and State IDs were obtained
* 2,920 visits to the "Free Store" (gently used items/clothing donated to CCO)
* 22,500 Bags of Groceries
And between 2012-2016, 1,048 families and individuals went from Homeless to Housed with assistance/shelter provided by CCO.
God willing, this will be my 7th Chicago Marathon and 14th marathon overall (2x Miami, 2x Indianapolis, 1x Wisconsin, 1x St. Louis & 1x Berlin). I can say from experience that training for and running a marathon is HARD, but you know what is NOT HARD? Donating to a great cause like Cornerstone Community Outreach and helping people! So please click on the link provided and help out with a generous donation!
