This year I have raised the bar by signing up for IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa (Half Ironman distance) and in doing so am pushing my body further to the limit and here’s why.
August 2014 my father was diagnosed with cancer and has since been fighting this disease; luckily he still survives. Initially I struggled with the news and found triathlons as an avenue to vent my stress. Living in San Francisco but with all my family back in Ireland presented an added challenge, leaving me feeling often somewhat helpless. I have found raising money for those in similar situations has allowed me to make my contribution.
Most if not all of us have been impacted by this disease whether or not we realize it...there may be a family member, friend or even a colleague fighting this horrible disease. Let this be your chance to make a difference; just like our Team statement, “IT IS BY ACTS AND NOT BY IDEAS THAT PEOPLE LIVE”
IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa takes place May 13, 2017. Please support me in my triathlon attempt with Team Cancer Sucks by donating here - https://www.crowdrise.com/teamcancersucks1/fundraiser/joemelia2
