The Rutgers chapter of Habitat for Humanity is having a fundraiser called Build-A-Thon on October 17/18. There will be teams that will raise funds to get building materials, then build shacks with those materials on our campus and stay there overnight. At the end of the event, all of the money that we raised and the materials used will be donated to the actual house that we are sponsoring and helping to build in Greater Plainfield.
The whole point of Build-A-Thon is to raise awareness for the need for affordable housing in New Jersey. Habitat gives families a hand up--not a hand out--so they can stop renting and put their money into a more permanent home. Our final goal is to get rid of the lack of sustainable and affordable housing in New Jersey (and eventually the world).
If you want to help our chapter get closer to our goal of $100,000 for our house sponsorship (we've got more than $85k already!), you can do so by donating here and by spreading the word (forward this link!) to your friends and coworkers. The deadline is Thursday 10/15. Every little bit counts.
Thanks for all the support and for taking the time to read this! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
