Some of Nassau County’s top High School lacrosse alumni will be taking to the field as Team Army Ranger at the Lake Placid Lacrosse Summit this summer. Team Army Ranger is joining forces with Army Ranger Lead The Way Fund, to honor the life and legacy of the late Sgt. James (Jimmy) J. Regan, Chaminade High School Class of 1998, Duke University Class of 2002. Recruited by Duke University on a lacrosse scholarship, Jimmy graduated with a degree in economics and was poised on the brink of a happy and fulfilling life when he answered the call to defend his country as an elite Special Operations Army Ranger. Tragically, Jimmy was killed on February 9, 2007, on his 4th Tour of Duty, while serving with the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.
Jimmy had an enormous love and passion for the game of lacrosse and was a good friend of many in the Long Island lacrosse community. Jimmy embodied everything these men strive to be. He was always a team player with a strong sense of Faith. He epitomized the Chaminade Man –doing the right thing at the right time when no one was looking. He proceeded to live this way, continuing to develop his character and striving for excellence while attending Duke and while serving his country as an elite Special Operations Army Ranger with the 75th Ranger Regiment. He had a profound sense of right and wrong, putting others needs before his own, and he was a friend to everyone. He was a born leader, on and off the field. At Chaminade he represented the Catholic League with the All-American title, at Duke he helped lead his Blue Devils to two ACC Championships and then leading his Brothers into combat as a coveted Fire Team Leader in the Regiment.
Army Ranger Lead The Way Fund was created to honor Jimmy and ease the financial and emotional burden on the “Brothers” he left behind. Army Ranger Lead The Way Fund, a 501c3 non-profit, is an active duty, casualty assistance, recovery and transition organization whose mission is to provide ongoing support and financial assistance to the men and families of the elite Special Operations 75th Ranger Regiment, beyond what the government and Veterans Affairs can offer. Army Rangers are selfless, elite, focused, operatives who deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours-notice. With more than 22 consecutive deployments per Battalion since the Global War on Terrorism began, Army Ranger Lead The Way Fund is dedicated to addressing and supporting the ongoing needs of this highly pressured force.
This is the first year our team will play in the Lake Placid Summit Classic to support the Lead the Way Fund. Our goal is to raise at least $12,000.00 in Jimmy’s memory. The tournament will take place in Lake Placid, New York from August 5-7, 2016
