BENEFITING: SHE'S THE FIRST
If there’s one thing that could get me, Dana Blair, to the gym or out for a run when I least feel like it, it’s She’s the First. She’s the First is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to girls in low-income countries who will be first in their families to graduate from high school. I set myself up for another challenge this year, and I invite you to join/support Team 'I Have Never Been That Girl' (IHNBTG)in Running the 2017 New Orleans Marathon. I’m not doing this for a medal, but rather to send girls to school in low-income countries. Education has always been precious to my family. My grandmother understood the power and opportunities created by education. As a black woman in Louisiana, she had to fight and struggle to graduate high school in the 1940s. She was not able to afford to finish college, but made sure her family understood the importance of going to school and seizing every opportunity in spite of what society may allow. She's The First is showing young women around the world that dreams can become a reality. I could not think of a better way to show support then on my home turf of New Orleans, Louisiana! I know my grandmother is smiling down on me! Let's go LADIES and GENTLEMEN and raise $$$$$$!!!
