EVENT DATE: Oct 07, 2018
My name is Jill Dine and I am running the 2018 Chicago Marathon for the Chicago Diabetes Project in honor of my son's Clayton and Ryan. Clayton was diagnosed with Type One diabetes when he was just 2 years old. Ryan was 6 months at the time. It was a very difficult time for our family learning how to juggle a new obstacle that had been thrown at us.
We were, over time, able to figure out how to manage an all encompassing disease. I was, and still am so suprised at how diabetes needs some sort of attention all day long. We are so lucky that we have the latest technology and medical devices for Clayton. We are now able to watch his bloodsugars on an app on our phones 24 hours a day. This was a huge milestone in our life because it meant Clayton could go to friends houses and I could still monitor his bloodsugars. Clayton is a remarkable 8 year old boy. He does extremely well in school, he has lots of friends, he excels at hockey and he is as sweet as can be. I am so proud of who he has become.
I run in honor of my son Ryan for also being a trooper when sometimes he gets lost in the shuffle. Diabetes is 100% a family disease. Ryan fully understands when Clayton need some sugar and when Clayton needs insulin. When Clayton was really low after hokcey one day he was becoming a little listless. We were very concerned and trying to get Clayton to pep up and talk. I have never seen a more genuine look of fear, concern and deep love then when I looked at Ryan's face. It was amazing.
Diabetes has interupted our perfect little family and I am fully ready to kick it to the door!! I wholehearledly believe that the Chicago Diabetes Project will make this happen. We have been so fortunate to find Dr. Oberholzer and his team and have seen tremendous progress over the years. Please help us beat diabetes by making a donation as I run 26.2!
Every dollar counts and means the world to us!
