We encourage you to join Team ASW! If you have participated in or benefited from any our programs, and wish to see the events continue, please donate to this walk. This is a major source of our funding. The Spokane Chapter of the Autism Society of Washington promotes lifelong community access for individuals and families. We focus on two groups that are under-served: school age families and adults on the spectrum. • School age Family group. Our goal is to meet at a fun & inexpensive location each month instead of a traditional support meeting. ASW-Spokane helps subsidize the fee to keep the cost low to encourage parents to bring siblings or peers to break the cycle of social isolation. These events may include picnics, trampoline gym, bowling, attending sports events depending on the season. • The Adults with HFA and Asperger’s group is a monthly drop-in meeting at a local library to visit and play card or board games. We are a volunteer run, 501 c 3 nonprofit support group. The Spokane Chapter receives private donations from the community. These donations help subsidize the events, provide outreach materials and support our other activities to provide community access. Here are some of our other activities: The Autism Society of Washington attempts to work with community partners on issues that we feel helps improve community access for persons on the spectrum: • Monthly Newsletter which includes information about training, conferences, fund raisers for other autism groups in our area and a manual for local autism related resources. • Icanshine Camp –we’re a co-sponsor with this group that helps persons with disabilities learn to ride a two-wheeler bike, not just for recreation but mobility. • AMC Theater Sensory Friendly Movies are an Autism Society of America & AMC initiative. We have hosted a special December Matinee for several years to encourage movie attendance. • Spokane Public Library and Spokane County Library: We donate autism related books which benefit the entire community. • We donate funds for the Spokane Community Colleges PACE program for added enrichment for the classes which are specific for students on the spectrum.
