BENEFITING: Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation
EVENT DATE: May 03, 2014
THE STORY:
The Emerald Open is the Gamma-Sigma chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity's annual fundraising event for the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation. The festivity consists of a tennis tournament between Mizzou sororities and other campus organizations held right here in Columbia, MO.
The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation was formed October of 2009 with the mission of educating young men on the importance of early detection, and supporting those who are affected by this disease. Testicular Cancer (TC) is the leading cancer in men ages 15-35, yet it is hardly discussed. When found early, it has a survival rate of over 95%. Early detection is as simple as a monthly testicular self-exam.
Supporting Sigma Pi's TC Awareness Emerald Open will help fund TCAF's education program which includes going into schools and teaching young men about the importance of monthly self exams, along with providing grants to families in immediate need. Every hour a young man is diagnosed and every day a life is lost due to lack of awareness. So please donate, and help save the balls!
