When Debbie Fulk first came to TASK, her 24-year-old son Tyler, who has autism, ADHD and epilepsy, was in a bad place: depressed, anxious and frustrated. He was increasingly unhappy in his day program and was being sent home regularly for behavioral problems. Debbie didn’t know where else to go.

A friend suggested she call TASK. "TASK loaded me up with information, explained my rights, and showed me other options," said Debbie.

Tyler insisted that he wanted to go to college. “Why can’t he, then?” asked the TASK Family Support Specialist. “There are so many options available now that didn’t exist 20 years ago.” TASK introduced Debbie to a certificate program at a local community college that was tailored for people with developmental disabilities.

Tyler is now enrolled in two certificate programs and wants to pursue his GED. He’s excited to get up in the morning and eager go to college.

“The transformation in Tyler has been huge,” says Debbie, “more than I’ve seen in his entire life! He’s in a place that’s perfect for him with trained staff that won’t let him fail.”
