Talk It Up TV is working on an episode to promote awareness of human trafficking and what can be done to help end this. The episode features a single mother whose daughter was trafficked at the age of 16.
She was convinced to leave her home by someone posing as a new online friend and then abandoned in the middle of nowhere, where the “pimp” convinced her to come to the home where the girls were being sold. From there she was mentally and physically abused - brainwashed to stay. Thankfully she was recovered 11 days later by an FBI operation, but unfortunately not prior to being raped and abused.
Her mother is the reason they found her. She heard about the website backpage.com and went through hundreds of photos of girls being sold before she found her daughter. There was no picture of her face, but she recognized her undergarments. The price for her child was $2,000.
She was rescued only one day before she would have been sold into modern–day slavery and shipped to California to the man who bought her. The family is still struggling badly. It’s been about two years. Her daughter has PTSD relapses and still hasn’t been able to talk about the awful things that happened to her. She hears her name being called when she’s out and has night terrors. Sometimes her mother has to pull her out of the closet, and she often sleeps in her mothers bed to feel safe.
The goal is to provide a college fund for the daughter and to find the mother counseling since she has struggled just to provide for her daughter. Talk It Up Tv also want to help find the daughter because she says being able to work makes her happy. Funds raised will help provide the family with whatever peace and normalcy possible, while making sure that this tragedy does not stand in the way of this young girl’s education.
