BENEFITING: Cancer for College
THE STORY:
"Hey, everyone! My name is Sydney Sheppard, and I am a survivor. I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, at the age of 13. I relapsed two years later at 15 and had an amputation of my dominant right arm. I have been in remission for almost 5 years.
I currently attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. I am majoring in Biomedical Sciences on a Premed track. My typical week is dedicated to volunteering and tutoring at the lovely Children’s Hospital of Alabama, working in a cancer research lab, and taking intensive coursework. My ultimate goal is to become an oncologist and active participant in groundbreaking cancer research."
