Swim the bay for DBMS
EVENT DATE: Sep 10, 2016
WHEN: Saturday, September 10th, 2016 at 7:00am (rain date - September 11th)
WHERE: Duxbury Bay Maritime School, Duxbury, MA.
WHO: Swimmers, Stand Up Paddleboarders (SUP) and Kayakers travel the 1.5 miles across the Bay to Duxbury Beach to raise money to support DBMS programming and outreach initiatives.
WHY: At DBMS our mission is to connect people of all ages, abilities and means to Duxbury Bay through educational and recreational programs that stimulate individual growth and an enduring love and appreciation of the sea. We do this through a wide variety of programs that include sailing, rowing, power-boating, paddle sports and marine ecology. We are also involved in many outreach programs that have significant costs and inadequate funding, including:
- AccesSail where cognitively and/or physically challenged individuals enjoy a captained sail on Duxbury Bay.
- Maritime Adventures where inner city youth come to experience all that Duxbury Bay has to offer - an experience they otherwise would never get.
- Our Veterans program where we thank our local Veterans for their service to our country by taking them on a sail or motorboat ride around Duxbury Bay.
- Our scholarship program where we provide financial assistance to individuals who lack the means to otherwise participate.
Fundraising through Swim the Bay for DBMS will directly support our programs and outreach initiatives.
