BENEFITING: SONOMA VALLEY MENTORING ALLIANCE INC
Growing up, did you play sports, take dance lessons, learn to play a musical instrument, act or sing on stage, etc.? Many kids are unable to have these experiences because of the cost involved to participate in fee-based extra-curricular activities. You can help by donating to the Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance’s ‘Empowerment Fund’. Research shows that empowered children are self-confident, perform better academically and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as substance abuse, early sexual activity, gang involvement and dropping out of school. As a non-profit organization, we provide one-on-one and group mentoring for youth in Sonoma Valley. Mentoring is a proven and cost-effective way to help disadvantaged students find a safe and inspired path to a better future. Our approach is different from that of most mentoring programs in that we address the academic, social and emotional needs of our mentees. We are very grateful to the community of Sonoma for sustaining and growing this program over the past 19 years, and are proud to be the “go-to agency” for youth facing academic, family or cultural barriers to success. The Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance is funded by private donations, grants and special events, and does not receive any state or federal funding. We do not discriminate based on age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or any basis proscribed by law.
