EVENT: 2018 Pittsburgh Marathon
EVENT DATE: May 06, 2018
A lot of you know that I have raised money for cancer for many years now. Some of you also know that this year cancer has hit even closer to home for myself and Barrett. For those of you who don't know, Barrett's mom is battling many forms of cancer at once right now, and not for the first time.
SUSAN G. KOMEN'S MISSION | Save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
SUSAN G. KOMEN'S BOLD GOAL | Reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026.
I picked Susan G Komen as my Pittsburgh Half Marathon fundraising partner after comparing all available cancer charity options all on www.charitynavigator.com. SGK had the best rating in both Program Expenses and Fundraising Efficiency. Essentially meaning to me that they are using their raised funds the best!
While research has made incredible strides in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, the cures for this disease still elude us. It is estimated that in 2018, among U.S. women and men, 268,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed and an estimated 41,400 will die as a result of breast cancer.
These days, every single one of us has been touched by cancer. I run in memory and honor of many. Every run I do for charity, the list grows. My hope is that one day that list STOPS growing. We must find a cure for cancer and shine hope into the lives of those battling all stages of this horrible disease. Let's look together, with hope, to a day without breast cancer.
Pittsburgh Half Marathon sets the fundraising goal at $350, but I would love to blow that goal out of the water! Any contribution helps! Even just sacrificing the cost of your morning coffee in exchange for a donation is getting us one step closer to a cure!
Thank you for taking some of your valuable time out of your day to read this and a BIG THANK YOU to all of my donors!
