"My ArteEast residency was such a unique opportunity to research and develop my projects; art was not only automatically generated but also constantly discussed and questioned with the other residents. You learn a lot when you exchange ideas in a dynamic creative environment. The ArteEast residency at Art Omi accelerated the development of my art practice and for that I am truly grateful.” - Mirna Bamieh, 2015 ArteEast Art Omi Resident
Since 2011, ArteEast has provided support to contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa to attend residencies in the United States. These residencies allow the region's most talented artists to connect to peers from around the world as well as with influential curators and other arts professionals, while giving them the creative time and space to make significant bounds in their work. These opportunities to engage with a global arts community have a great influence on artists' professional careers, and, by extension, on the vitality of the creative capital of their societies. ArteEast is one of the few organizations that can offer these artists the funding they need to participate in and contribute to what we hope will become thriving societies built on freedom of individual expression, creativity, and open dialogue.
