Standing with Standing Rock
November 07, 2016
BENEFITING: CHINESE PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION
ORGANIZER: CHINESE PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION
EVENT DATE: Jan 01, 2017
As you may already know I recently returned from a journey to Standing Rock to support our Water Protectors in their commitment to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline from destroying sacred sites and the rivers 17 million people depend upon for clean drinking water.
As an indigenous woman from the Yakama and Colville tribes the rally cry, "Mni' Wiconi!" (Water is Life!) resonates on a level that is soul deep. I come from a long line of fisher people. Our Nchi' wana, also known as the Columbia River is our everything. My elders instilled in me the knowledge that I am accountable to the seven generations to come for the conditions of the world I leave to them and that we are all connected. So if my relatives are standing up to protect the river that gives them life so must I.
Although I could not stay there on the frontlines I still want to continue my heartfelt support of the vital work that is happening on the ground. The camp needs to maintain a strong presence through the winter and in the face of escalating violence and brutality. We are calling for general support funds to support this incredible movement against dirty energy and corporate greed. We need to win this fight, and we are asking if you can join, by donating today!
