Do you ever think about how easy it is for us to get a drink of water? Not much to think about really. We grab a cup, turn on the faucet and out pours clean, cold, thirst -quenching water. So simple and so taken for granted. Don't you wish we could all be so lucky!
On March 3rd, I am leaving for Mwandi, Zambia to support men, women, children and little babies who do not have a faucet to turn or source of clean water. My pictures graphically tell the story - can you imagine dipping a dirty yogurt cup into a draining pipe for a drink of water-can you imagine your children or grandchilren searching for water this way? Not only do our kids not search for water-they don't have to carry for miles in jugs weighing 20-30 pounds. Zambia is currently experiencing a severe outbreak of cholera due to men, women and children drinking contaminated water because that is all they have - children are dying from cholera - and you and I need to stop it!
Please be part of my team and let us bring clean water to them. I am privileged to serve the people of Mwandi at the Mwandi Mission Hospital and the outlying villages. My technical role is providing nursing care to the sick, assessing the hospital's operations, and sharing my many years of healthcare experience however realistically, I will mostly be learning how people survive with the least of resources, like clean water and basic health care.
As I pursue my passion to serve others, I have teamed up with the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) as a medical volunteer. CMMB is an NGO focused exclusively on global health care for the world's poorest populations. We believe in a world in which every human life is valued, and helath and human dignity are shared by all. To learn about CMMB's programs, visit :www.cmmb.org.
We have so much - please help me and give much to my campaign. I need your prayers for my safe travel, your encouragement to do the work that needs done, your generosity to make life less of a burden. Please open your wallet and be a part of the solution. We can do this! It is the least we can do for our brothers and sisters who do not know what we take for granted.
