Today marks a very special day for me. Five years, after being diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer, I underwent a double mastectomy. As daunting as that day was, so much good has come from it. I try so hard to be mindful of how wonderful each day is and how far I have come from five years ago today. Today, I’m healthy and cancer free. Shortly after my experience, my sister-in-law Jody and I, along with our children, created our non-profit organization, Sunny Days Ahead. After 3 years, we continue to make and deliver our “feel good” tote bags to the UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Treatment Center in Plantation, FL. We try to deliver about 50 bags 3-4 times per year, but due to Covid, our fundraising capabilities have been limited. However, we are so fortunate to have had help from many of you, and kind donations from Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Parkland Sweets. Our latest exciting news is that we have partnered with Sharsheret; a national non-profit organization that improves the lives of Jewish women and families living with or at increased genetic risk for breast or ovarian cancer through personalized support and saves lives through educational outreach. They will be fundraising items for Sunny Days Ahead to include in our bags like tissues, hand sanitizer, lotions, coloring books, coloring pencils, tea bags and mints. Unfortunately, we do not have a website, as all of our donations have been used to purchase many of our personalized items for our tote bags. The joy our bags bring to cancer patients is overwhelming and we are always so thrilled to receive letters and emails thanking us for what we are doing. Donations of any amount and your support are greatly appreciated!
