EVENT DATE: Jan 14, 2018
Our family is holding a fundraiser for Gilda’s Club Twin Cities, a cancer support organization created in honor of Gilda Radner, one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live.
I had been given literature on several support groups, but didn’t feel moved to check them out until I was introduced to Gilda’s Club. The idea of a cancer support community founded by the friends and family of Gilda Radner immediately piqued my interest.
I remember so many of her vignettes on SNL. My favorite being her “Roseanne Roseannadanna” It’s always something. I can still remember belly laughing so hard that I cried as she acted out her character without ever cracking a smile! I wanted to be a part of a community created on her behalf.
I recently attended an orientation at Gilda’s Club and upon walking through the trademark “red doors” I was immediately taken by the level of sincere caring I felt. This “homelike” place offers support, nutrition, yoga, education, social activities and so much more for those of us finding ourselves, and our family and friends, part of this infamous club.
AND everything offered is free.
On Sunday, January 14th, from 2pm-5pm, we are putting on a bowling fundraiser “Strike Out Cancer” at Andover Lanes. You can participate by signing a group up to bowl (6 people), signing up as an individual to bowl, showing up and enjoy the fun, bidding on something at the silent auction, or providing an item for the auction. Our goal is to raise $10,000 through this fundraiser. If this mission speaks to you, or if you’re unable to make it to the event, please consider donating.
