In the times of COVID-19 and many things getting cancelled, postponed or delayed one thing that did not change was our commitment to respond to you, our community. During Tropical Storm Isaias, followed quickly by the tornado/microburst in the last weeks of the summer with Branford being one of the most impacted towns in the tri-state area, we responded throughout the community and the town.
We are now asking for your help.
Stony Creek Rescue Fire Company 5 is working with the town of Branford to replace the current “Engine 5” which has been our old reliable for many years. A 1993 Supthen engine, it served us well even beyond its “expiration date”. According to the recommended guidelines, fire engines should be replaced or refurbished every 20 years, which would have been 2013.
Evolving technology and safety standards have driven up the cost of replacing apparatus. The town recognizes the need to replace the current Engine 5 and has agreed with our members that we should purchase what is best suited for our district which includes Stony Creek and portions of Branford.
To secure the best deal for what the fire company felt was needed for the community, we had to partner with the town, “put some skin in the game” and fund part of the cost. Our replacement engine is anticipated to be delivered on February 2021. Rescue Fire Company 5 was fortunate to have the preliminary funds so as not to delay the production and delivery of the new Engine 5. However, it has depleted our funds from previous fund drives and donations.
We know times are tough right now. The volunteer members of Rescue Fire Company 5 are asking for the support of our community. We are appreciative of any amount you would choose to give. We are a 501(c)3, so any donation is tax deductible and every little bit counts!
