BENEFITING: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: IRONMAN Race for Free 2014
My name is Casey Cook. I am racing in the IRONMAN 70.3 event on September 21st in Princeton NJ. Look to the left of the screen and watch the photos rotate. That is me running along the beach in tights, with a shower cap on my head.
I am racing for a great cause/charity called "STOMP THE MONSTER." The monster in this story is the pain caused by cancer. The STOMPER is your generosity. STOMP the Monster is a charity that provides financial and other support to cancer patients, their families, and caregivers.
I was oblivious to what families of cancer patients go through, until our dear friends, the Eberts went through this journey. One of the heroes in my life is Ashton Ebert, the Eberts youngest son. He was a young teen when he first faced Leukemia. Through God's grace, Ashton and the Ebert family conquered cancer, and Ashton is now a flourishing soon to be Sophomore at William and Mary. Scroll through more of the photos to the left. Thats Ashton in the snazzy bow tie. And that gorgeous family.....? Yup, thats the Eberts.
Prior to witnessing Ashton and the Ebert's courage, I had no idea the strain the patient's families go through OUTSIDE the hospital. Through their several year scary ordeal, the Eberts had an incredible support group to help love and support them through Ashton's victorious battle. Most families do not. Stomp the Monster provides financial and emotional support to the cancer patients families. This could mean transportation to the hospital, gas money, food cards, assistance paying bills, and much more.
I will swim, bike and run this race thinking about how blessed I am to have the Eberts in my life, about Ashton's courage, and about the countless number of families that are struggling with this monster today. Plus I will be saying "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...." for about 6 hours straight!).
