The L-5B operated by the Joe Foss Squadron is a true WWII combat Veteran!! This L-5B was built in December 1944. The US Army took possession of the aircraft in early 1945. This aircraft was then transferred to the European Theater of Operations and became a part of the 71st Infantry Division. The aircraft flew missions as an artillery spotter and remained in Europe until the early 1950s when it returned to the U.S. and was flown by the New York Civil Air Patrol until being sold. The Joe Foss Squadron continues to research the history of our aircraft! Our L-5B is also a part of the rides program and we are always excited to provide someone with a ride in a great piece of US military aviation history. Our fundraising goal will help keep this amazing aircraft in the air fulfilling the important mission of the CAF.
