The non-profit, Member supported State Theatre Center for the Arts in Easton, PA presents live performances including Broadway Musicals, concerts, comedy, lectures and fine art gallery exhibits. We also produce the FREDDY© Awards program that recognizes and rewards high school musical theater in our region and an annual Summer Acting Camp for students grade 1-12. Our breathtaking venue also serves as host to numerous private, corporate and community events throughout the year, and is a major catalyst for economic prosperity in our region.
The State Theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hundreds of major stars have appeared at the State Theatre since the Vaudeville days when the theatre opened in 1926, at which time the theatre was home to the premier of Gone with the Wind in our region. We even have our own resident ghost, Fred – J. Fred Osterstock, who managed the theatre in the 40s & 50s.
The theatre’s “modern era” began after the major “Renaissance Campaign”, restoration project in 1990. By the mid 1990’s the theatre was presenting an average of 53 performances per year, and attracting 60,000 patrons, and the growth continued. In an ordinary year, the State Theatre presents an average of 85-90 performances and events and attracts up to 100,000 patrons of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. The theatre’s growth has been an economic boon for surrounding businesses, with more than 50% of State Theatre patrons visiting a local restaurant on show nights.
Although we are a 501c3 non-profit charity, we also support other charities throughout the year by donating tickets for theatre events. Additionally, through collaborative efforts we offer free and discount tickets to students, seniors and veterans, to provide low and no cost access to the arts to underserved populations.
COVID-19 has caused a temporary closure of the State Theatre, along with all other arts and entertainment venues. We are planning for our re-opening with a new 2021 Season, but the financial challenges associated with a shut-down are extensive. We urgently need the community’s help to sustain our beautiful theatre.
The arts have always provided social, economic and quality of life benefits in communities everywhere. But as we work to emerge from this global pandemic, the healing power of the arts in our community will be essential. Please donate to the State Theatre’s “YOUR Seat is Waiting” Campaign. You will be helping us sustain the organization until we can safely open again and serve our community through the arts.Your tax-deductible contribution goes directly to support the State Theatre’s operations during closure, and re-opening preparations. We will be back, and YOUR Seat is Waiting!
