In Dec 2001 my family adopted a puppy from North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, LI. That dog, Travis, was my baby. She (yes, I gave her a boys name) changed mine and my families life for the better. North Shore Animal League America—the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization—has saved the lives of over 1 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at risk of euthanasia. Through their many innovative programs, they reach across the country to rescue animals from overcrowded shelters, unwanted litters, puppy mills, natural disasters and other emergencies and find them permanent, loving homes. As a leader in the no-kill movement, they are dedicated to promoting shelter pet adoptions; encouraging spay/neuter programs; reducing animal cruelty; ending euthanasia; and advancing the highest standards in animal welfare. I remember seeing her come out from behind a door at NSAL as a crowd of people bombarded the workers to get their hands on their new puppies. I remember how small she was and how she was able to eat from her bowl while sitting. Those were only the early memories of a countless number of smiles she brought to our faces. We were able to give her a good life because of the work done by North Shore Animal League. I feel indebted to this great facility and that is why I am asking you to donate on my behalf to this amazing place so that they can continue, not only to save the lives of our furry friends, but so that they can give countless other families the same joy that Travis brought to us.
