BENEFITING: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital
ORGANIZER: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I'm back at it! My second Boston Marathon as a proud member of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital's Race for Rehab team! It's always so hard to put the emotions and excitement into words. Every day I am working with patients at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital who have sustained life changing disabilities. The 6 years I have spent at Spaulding have been so impactful. I know I never truly appreciated the adversity many people face, nor the amazing mental and physical resillience that is possible, until I started working as a Case Manager on the Spinal Cord Injury program. Spaulding strives to help people find their strength, and that is the epitome of what we do each and every day.
I feel so honored to play the role I do in working with patients and their families. I love the relationships I have made with my patients and their families along with my coworkers. Even though we are arguably only a small part of someone's journey, working with them at the time of their acute rehabilitation, we are helping them find an inner strength they never knew was possible, one they will carry with them for a lifetime.
I'm hoping this fundraising go around I will get the chance to share some stories from my past patients to highlight the incredible work Spaulding does. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my fundraising site. Your contribution is so greatly appreciated! I hope you will also consider following my training journey as I head towards April 17, 2016! You can do so by visiting, bookmarking and sharing my blog, www.eatplayrunkirby.com .

Spaulding Rehabilitation Network is proud to be an official BAA Charity Team for the 2017 Boston Marathon. Over the past 12 years, more than 350 runners have raised over $3.5 million directly supporting Spaulding's patients. Funds raised through the Race for Rehab program have provided advancements to patient care, education, research innovation and capital improvements. Every dollar supports our mission to improve the quality of life for persons recovering from or learning to live fully with illness, injury or disability.
This year, funds raised will support the many research initiatives within the Spaulding Network. Our research aims to improve the care we provide as well as patient outcomes in clinical areas such as spinal cord injury, brain injury, musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.
We are so thankful for the hard work and dedication of all of our runners, as well as the friends and family members who support them. Our team is comprised of former patients, family members, loyal volunteers and dedicated staff. Together, we will help our patients find their strength.
