Nutrition must begin at home!

In a poor rural community you might think that the Moms and Dads would be accustomed to growing food for their families. But in Chocolá, Guatemala, few people have family plots because of hindrances like ongoing damage by chickens, dogs and thundering rainstorms. Lack of home gardening knowledge and money to build garden shelters are two of the most critical barriers standing in the way for people.

This can change with your help!

By giving today, you support the Family Food Gardens project. Your donation will provide education about gardening techniques, successful plant varieties for the area and nutritional information. Already, over 90 families have improved their nutrition and have saved money because they no longer have to buy their fresh vegetables -- some are even earning an extra income by selling their bounty at the local market!

One of the Chocolá home gardeners we helped says, “Every vegetable on our table comes from my garden. We are able to eat fresh vegetables every day. I no longer spend a centavo at the market for vegetables, and the money I save can be used on things like medicine for my children when they need it.” These words are proof of the important difference this program makes for local families.
