With Halloween -- and all the candy that comes with it -- rapidly approaching, SOSMentor urges you to reflect on the childhood obesity crisis our nation is currently facing. For the younger generation, candy and other sugary foods and drinks are no longer a special treat we reserve for holidays and birthdays.
When we consider the fact that one out of 3 children born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime, it is clear that this is an urgent problem we must tackle head-on.
That's why we are holding our "Trick or Treat: Give Me Something Good to Eat" fundraiser just in time for Halloween! Our goal is to raise $1031 by 10/31. For every $5 you donate, you sponsor one student's participation in a ShapeUp nutrition education or physical activity workshop:
$10 enables 2 students to participate
$15 enables 3 students to participate
$20 enables 4 students to participate
...and so on!
Your contribution funds the education that children need in order to lead a healthy life, free of chronic disease. Imagine the difference you can make. With your help, we can get our kids back on the right track with a healthy, balanced diet and plenty of physical activity -- with room for special treats on Halloween!
