Pencils of Promise is truly one of my favorite organizations!! I love them so dearly that I hope to intern with and maybe work for them one day if ever possible. The simple explanation of what they do is: they build schools in the developing world but really it's much more complex than that. They are building schools with local materials and labor to support the local economy in the places with the greatest need for education. There are still 65 million children in this world without access to even a preschool education and PoP wants to see that number reach zero as soon as possible. To them, this is a very solvable problem because we have all the resources we need to support access to education, we just have to put what we have to use so that these kids can have brighter futures. I cannot sit here in America as someone who is in college at a very good school, who attended a very good school system K-12 as well and say that I know what the work PoP does means to these children who are just basically begging to learn. It blows my mind to think about especially as someone who has officially decided to study to become an elementary school teacher that there are so many kids that don't even have the option to learn how to read and write, who don't have remotely close to the opportunities many of us do. But I know with what PoP is doing and at the rate they are helping, more and more kids will be able to dream big and actually reach their dreams and make good lives for themselves. I didn't spend much time actually writing about PoP here I guess because I wanted to write an honest statement of what this organization means to me and I hope one day I will get to see their life-changing work in person in either Guatemala, Nicaragua, Laos or now in Africa!! Please read what Sophia Bush has written below also and consider donating whatever you can to support education for all! It's a passion of mine and a passion of Sophia's so I'm beyond thrilled to support her and Pencils of Promise on this team in hopes and in confidence that PoP will win the $50,000 through the Mozilla Firefox Challenge...did you see how great Sophia did last year? This girl is a rockstar! But let's not forget it will take everything we have to win so let's go big in the name of education. God Bless and I hope you all can help in some way. Just spread the word, heck join the team too, and get raising some money!!

Mozilla Firefox is giving away $50,000 to the fundraiser that raises the most right now! Please, please, please donate and help me rally up support for Pencils of Promise and help build a new school in Guadalupana!
Check out the leaderboard here and help me get to first!
I attended an impact trip to Guadalupana and what struck me immediately was just how high need the community is. And that's where my Impossible came from. Could I raise the money to build a school? One three-room structure costs $30,000.
I volunteered to give my 30th birthday to PoP and we were able to build two new schools and make such an incredible impact for these children. I'm so in love with the work that PoP is doing that I want to help more.
Get involved however you can. Give up a $4 latte. Tell your parents you'll do all the laundry for a week. Throw a bake sale. A lemonade stand. A car wash. Spread the word in your community. Your voice is the most powerful tool in the world. So shout it from the rooftops team!
Whatever it takes. Let's win this challenge for Pencils of Promise!
