Mohamed and I are excited to support SOLE-NYC at P.S197M in Harlem, New York. We are native New Yorkers who attended NYC public schools (including high school in Harlem for Mohamed). We grew up appreciating the wonderful benefits of growing up in a city like New York and want to help support self-organized learning environments (SOLES) and their students.
SOLE-NYC inspires students to ask and solve Big Questions and think outside the box when it comes to learning. After more than 400 SOLEs, SOLE-NYC has seen students ages 3 -12 refine their collaborative skills, creatively discuss their findings, and ignite a fierce passion for learning. You can learn more about SOLEs here: https://www.theschoolinthecloud.org/about
Harlem is historically known as the center of African-American arts, culture, and music. But, over many years, it has been associated with poverty, political neglect, as well as failing and segregated schools. With neighborhoods rapidly changing as new development rolls in, strengthening communities and equipping students with critical thinking, reading, and writing skills is imperative. Help support the SOLE-NYC lab so it can continue to redesign the future of learning and provide these NYC students with the resources they need.
