The School in the Cloud SOLE lab at A4 Phaltan (Pragat Shikshan Sanstha) opened on December 3, 2014, as part of Sugata Mitra’s TED Prize Project. The first School in the Cloud lab in Maharashtra, India, it will continue to function independently when the project ends in October 2016. There are Granny sessions in which children converse with “Grannies” from all over the world and learn not only a new language, but get a chance to connect to a world far beyond their small town, and engage in activities that stimulate their curiosity and throw up different kinds of insight.
A4 Phaltan is housed in a school, Kamala Nimbkar Balbhavan, which encourages an interaction with nature and environment as well as the Arts. As they move into the next phase of The School in the Cloud, A4 Phaltan will continue to explore the possibility of curricular SOLEs with the help of the teachers at their school. The lab is used for the entire school from Grades 1 to 10 and will also include the preschool children very soon.
The impact on the children’s confidence, comprehension as well as their communication and technology related skills is already apparent and we hope to take this further!
Do join us in our efforts to spread SOLE!
