BENEFITING: The Grassroot Project
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2015
15 years ago, I ran the Marine Corps Marathon. It was my second marathon and, although my race time wasn't what I hoped, it was an amazing experience and an honor to participate. Many moons and many more races later, I'm back for a different Marine Corps experience-- the 10K! Same great energy, same great Marines...just fewer aches and pains.
This time I'm doing the race to support The Grassroot Project. Please help me in my quest to raise $1000.
WHO WE ARE:
The mission of The Grassroot Project (TGP) is to use sports to educate at-risk youth in Washington D.C. about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The Grassroot Project engages at-risk youth in Washington D.C. by partnering with athletes from Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, Maryland University and other DC area universities. The student athletes address the prevention of HIV/AIDS through an interactive curriculum of over 15 games and activities that encourage participatory learning of basic HIV prevention information, stigma, and discrimination. By using the vehicle of sport to influence social change, the programs allow kids to share their feelings and beliefs, increase knowledge, and develop healthy attitudes and behaviors.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Run with us towards the day of an HIV/AIDS free generation. Team Grassroot is TGP’s full and half marathon and 10k program. Included in your $500.00 fundraising commitment are prizes, a TGP swag, exclusive training plans by a certified run coach, and group workouts with other TGP athletes. Feel free to email our executive director Ryan with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. Sign up today, and he will be in touch!
