Sigma Phi Epsilon Greek Sing
Organized by: Michael Booker II
EVENT DATE Feb 24, 2016
Every year, the Greek community at Carnegie Mellon University puts on a series of short musicals in order to raise money for a selected charity. For Greek Sing 2016, the community chose to raise money for Our Clubhouse, a local Pittsburgh non-profit organization that provides emotional, informational, and social support to those affected by cancer - including not only the survivor, but the families as well - in the Greater Pittsburgh Region. You can view their website here.
Our Clubhouse offers an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities. All activities are offered at no cost and membership is free to a place where members can share wisdom, experiences, laughter and tears. Since its opening in 2006, Our Clubhouse has serviced 2,000 members, plus their family and friends.
The main purpose and goal of Greek Sing is the Philanthropy contribution, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Penn Theta has been the top-earning fraternity the last three years in a row. We have set this year’s goal at $10,000, in hopes that we can continue to contribute greatly to the region’s ongoing efforts to provide support for families affected by cancer. The funds directly contribute to activities such as support groups, health and awareness workshops, and the continued expansion of the clubhouse in the region.
This year we have an added incentive: a generous alumnus has offered to match every donation up to $10,000! If donations are received before the end of February, 100% of the donations will be matched. All donations will go to Our Clubhouse regardless.
Greek Sing is the year’s biggest philanthropy event, and provides the perfect opportunity for us as a fraternity to give back to the Pittsburgh community that has contributed so much to our success. I know that when we all say that we are Proud to be a SigEp, the inherent meaning is that we couldn't imagine being anywhere else. It is because of the way that we conquer events like Booth, Buggy, and Greek Sing, that defines our brotherhood.
Of course, everyone remembers their Greek Sing performance, and you can view last year’s first-place-winning show Seussical with Kappa Alpha Theta here. This year we will be performing Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Alpha Phi, and we welcome you to see the show if you are in town on March 19th.
I can’t thank you enough for your contribution, and always Proud To Be A SigEp,
