BENEFITING: ST LOUIS BICYCLEWORKS INC
Each year we send two or three shipping containers full of at least 500 bicycles to various developing nations. In the past we have shipped to Panama, Ghana, Ecuador, Nigeria and other nations that can use our unusable bikes. These are generally bicycles unusable to our own programs. Bicycles that would otherwise be scrapped due to low demand. We along with other non-profits in country partner; remove the handlebars, turn the handlebars sideways and carefully stack over 500 into a container along with any usable parts and pieces we can find from other bikes not being sent. Having a bicycle in some of these nations is the difference between walking several hours or ridding a bicycle for an hour to get to school or work. We dont have the space to store 500 plus bikes in our building, and the container is charged by the day. So we need a place to store the bikes while we collect them. We have rented a very cheap storage space near our home in Soulard and will be shipping out of this location. Your donation will be used for helping pay the rent and utilities of this space so that we can continue to repurpose these bicycles rather than scrap them.
