Service Dog for Daniel
Organized by: Olivia Howlett
Daniel is a 20 year old happy, smilely, outgoing guy that loves The Lord. He enjoys playing his harmonica at church, bowling, and playing the Wii. Daniel has been battling a disease called Cash Leukodystrophy, also known as Vanishing White Matter Disease (VMW), since he was 4 years old. This is a progressive disease that shuts down the nervous system. The is no cure for this disease. Daniel has gone from being a normal 4 year old boy, to a walker at 8, and is now full time in a wheelchair. He has lost the ability to use his legs and the disease is now affecting the use of his hands as well. This disease progresses with fever, fatigue, trauma to the head, and infection due to colds or illness. Daniel also has seizures at night in his sleep. This causes my parents to get minimal to no sleep as they worry about Daniel. One time Daniel almost suffocated to death because somehow he pulled a pillow over his face during one of his seizures. By the grace of God, my father woke up just in time. My brother really could benefit from a service dog. Not only would this dog be a wonderful companion for him, but a service dog could help Daniel with his daily struggles that people like you and I take for granted. These dogs are trained to open and close doors, pick up items that are dropped, turn on and off the lights, retrieve items , take off shoes and socks and so much more. The greatest benefit would be that these dogs are trained to recognize seizures and alert for help. This dog would be life changing for Daniel as it would give him back some of his independence and a best friend. Please consider helping my brother reach this goal. Thank you in advance for all your support! May God richly bless you for your generocity!
