BENEFITING: GO CONSCIOUS EARTH INC
This past summer I was reunited with an old friend that I have known for over 20 years. His name is Godi Godar (one of the most honest kindhearted people I have ever met), he is from the Lac Tumba region of the Congo basin (formerly known as Zaire). He moved to the states when he was 21 and has lived here for 30 years now. All of this time he has been working hard to help save his people and the rainforest upon which they depend. The Congo basin rainforest is being clear cut at a devastating rate, destroying the only place on earth where our very close cousins the Bonobos (like a chimpanzee but smaller and more peaceful), the wild forest elephants and the Bantumba pygmy people live! In 2014, Godi and Go Conscious Earth, had a major breakthrough working with the DRC government, they were able to preserve 1 million acres of rainforest for the indigenous people. As part of the agreement we will help the tribes become self sustainable with clean water, schools, clinics, sustainable farming, fishing and right livelihood in exchange for the preservation of the rainforest. If this works we will get another million acres and so on, ideally repeating the process worldwide and saving as much rainforest as possible. The rainforests of the world are the lungs of the planet, without them none of us will survive.
Our first initiative is clean water. We have purchased a human powered drill from village drill to drill wells and have brought it to Lac Tumba. Godar and I had an incredibly successful trip to Lac Tumba where we were able to complete 5 wells. We have also trained our "Water team" which is made up of people from the the various tribes surrounding the lake. They can now continue to drill the wells for the villages surrounding the lake and they have jobs! Each well will cost $4000.00 to drill and will provide water for 2,000 people, that is only $2 per person to provide clean lifesaving water!!!
Go Conscious Earth has some great hats and t-shirts , including one that says "98.7% Bonobo" on the website that you can get with your contribution. Go Conscious Earth is a 501 c3 non profit so you can get a receipt and write it off on your taxes if that helps and some companies even match your donation to a non profit.
So now when our kids learn about global warming and children starving in Africa and ask us "what are we doing about this?" we can tell them that we are drilling wells so the kids will have clean water, we are teaching sustainable farming practices so they will have food, we are building schools and clinics, we are preserving the rainforest that provides oxygen for all living creatures, helps cool the earth and is home to Bonobos!
It feels so good to be doing something about it instead of feeling helpless!
Even if you don't have money to contribute just liking our You Tube Video and Facebook page is super helpful. Share if you like! Or if you feel a calling to come help in Africa or have skills to help from here! the more the merrier!
Also we will be bringing stuff to the tribes....vitamins, dewormer, medical supplies, mosquito nets, art supplies... so if you have any connections or work for any companies that might be able to help with supplies! Melesi! Thank you all so much our trip was an incredible success thanks to all of the wonderful donations and we look forward to bringing more soon.
