Listen to Some of Our Music!

BENEFITING: Ferndale Community Choir
Ferndale is a town of 1,400 on the coast of Northern California in Humboldt County, 5 hours north of San Francisco (if you go much further, you'll end up in Oregon). Nearly 48 years ago, the wife of one of the two Lutheran pastors in town got a group of singers together to sing for a joint service at Christmas. They had so much fun, they did it again at Easter, and the Ferndale Community Choir was born.
Betty Diehl has been the Choir's director for all these years, selecting a diverse program of sacred music for performances in the Spring and again at Christmas. The Choir sings ancient melodies, rousing spirituals, and modern works, making the music accessible to concert-goers with unpretentious passion, great diction, and the joy of making music together.
Over the years, more than 500 people have put on green robes and yellow stoles to sing with the Choir. Every season 50 to 60 people of all different faiths (and no faith), from 15 to 91 years old, from dairymen to doctors, and from six different towns gather in Ferndale for rehearsals. Our music is described as "eclectic, electric choral music for the soul."
So, what about Carnegie Hall? Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) is an amazing organization whose purpose is to bring singers from around the world to perform in New York City. Handel's Messiah is presented annually at Carnegie Hall, where about 450 singers present the famous work complete with symphony orchestra, professional direction, and soloists.
The concert is underwritten by the singers - each paying a portion of the total cost of the event at Carnegie Hall, in addition to travel and hotel costs.
And DCINY invited the Ferndale Community Choir! They found our music on our websites, and used our videos as our audition. We will join with 400 other singers in New York City at Carnegie Hall the Sunday after Thanksgiving this year.
We are agog, and absolutely honored to represent Ferndale and Humboldt County in New York City.
53 singers are going, at an average cost of $2,690 each. The Choir is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, with the stated goal of bringing sacred music to our community.
Our appeal to you is to assist this group of singers bring their passion and joy to perform one of the grandest pieces of sacred music ever written in one of the grandest cities in the world. You can check us out at www.ferndalechoir.com, and you can see the organization we are working with at DCINY.org.
Thank you for listening!
