The Story

EVENT DATE: Nov 26, 2017

DEADLINE TO GIVE: Dec 01, 2017

Our mission is dedicated to applying research and high quality treatment and training to improve the function and quality of life of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and related disabilities in Central Florida.

By joining Scott Center Running Team, you are helping to make a difference by helping children and adolescents develop social skills through our Social Skills Programs.  This fundraiser supports our Social Skills Group because, we believe in teaching and facilitating interactions between children and adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  Social skills are an important, and often overlooked, element of personal growth for children with ASD. Where children with ASD learn to have Fun and FIT in!

The Scott Center for Autism Treatment is a not-for-profit health care clinic formed in 2009. It is centrally located and has confidential access for patients. Since 2009, the Scott Center has helped over 160 families learn to overcome many of the behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).The clinic is an integrated service, research, and training component of Florida Tech's School of Psychology for the Applied Behavior Analysis and Clinical graduate programs. Through practical training at the clinic, graduate students receive state–of-the-art training and supervision from doctoral level faculty. This prepares them for a future as professionals to continue the work to improve the lives of individuals and their families. Finally, the Scott Center is ranked among the best in the world for its past and ongoing research contributions to the field of behavior analysis as we continually strive to improve clinical and behavioral outcomes for children and families living with ASD.

  1. Equal emphases on service, training, and research: applied research ensures that best practices are utilized for treatment and future clinicians are well trained. Research ensures that procedures are effectively conveyed to the community.
  2. Ongoing assessment of treatment effectiveness: Occurs through outcome measures, satisfaction surveys, and formal evaluation systems at all levels of training.
  3. Affiliation with Florida Tech’s School of Psychology allows the clinic to draw upon the university's resources for marketing, fund-raising, and public relations, as well as for operational services.
  4. A focus on the entire family: Family involvement is integral in the implementation, evaluation, and ongoing revision of treatment plans. This emphasis on caregiver training helps to prevent and address problem behaviors that might arise later. Families have access to other counseling resources to help them manage the challenges of raising a child with a disability.
