BENEFITING: Arizona Technology Council Foundation
Sparks believes a robust hands-on learning environment in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) can have a positive impact on students and open their minds to new possibilities for their future careers. Opportunities in hands-on STEM sparks curiosity, interest - that pivotal “a-ha” moment that could change a child’s perception of STEM and STEM careers from “I can’t” to “I will?”
Through Sparks, access to engaging field trips is no longer a financial barrier that oftentimes prevents disadvantaged students from reaching their full potential.
Sparks is raising donor funds to cover the costs associated with educational field trips, allowing all students to have the opportunity to participate in hands-on STEM enrichment regardless of their schools’ financial constraints.
Designed and taught by experts in the fields of STEM, Spark's hands-on, project-based programs immerse students in STEM topics while also providing physical fitness activities through roller skating.
Engaging in Sparks closes the gap between students learning about STEM and knowing how STEM applies in the real world. Imagine exploring friction, force, center of mass, distance and spatial relationships by taking apart a roller skate and discovering the science of its design. Or how about reinforcing math concepts as students calculate a skater’s speed as it relates to rink design and music tempo. As well as learning about types of sound waves, sound frequency, types of light when studying rink design and its effects on sound and light- and then having a direct experience of what they learned while roller skating. Engagement is the key to learning and learning is the key to future opportunities.
With your help, we can reach our goal of providing funding for at least 1000 disadvantaged youth for school-time STEM programming. For every $11 contribution, you can give 1 disadvantaged student: 45 minutes of engaging hands-on STEM lesson 2 hours of roller skating and physical fitness (lesson included) and 1 hot meal.
Please contribute to give 1 ($11 donation), 2 ($22 donation), 5 ($55 donation) 10 ($110 donation) or even more students the gift of Spark's programming. Any level of contribution you can afford will have a deep impact on the life of a disadvantaged student.
Sparks partners with United Skates of America to provide its STEM programs in its 19 roller skating rinks across the US. All donations go directly towards covering field trip costs. You can make a difference.
