In April 2017 my dad, Luke Mayo, was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. I did a lot of research after his diagnosis and was shocked to find that while Pancreatic cancer is the third deadliest cancer in the US, very little is known about it. In fact, it's one of the few cancers that has not improved its survival rate over the last 40 years.
On October 22nd I will be running Durham's Bull City Half Marathon as a Pioneer athlete for Project Purple. Project Purple is an organization aiming to cure Pancreatic cancer. Proceeds will go both to research and also to support current patients and their families. Please consider donating whatever you can to the cause, there is no donation too small! You can either make a one time contribution, or pledge to donate per mile that I run. A half marathon is 13.1 miles, so even just $5 per mile will equal to a $65 donation!
I'm running this race in honor of my dad, and in hopes that in the future a Pancreatic cancer diagnosis will no longer be a virtual death sentence. Please join me in my quest to help raise money for Pancreatic cancer research.
