The island of trash in the trans-Atlantic is mostly plastic with high levels of CFO's and many other dangerous cancer causing elements. All the plastic we throw into the ocean eventually over time breaks down into tiny tiny pellets even edible to some krill. At the same token we gamble on just about every other aspect of ocean health from overfishing to global climate change to nuclear disasters worldwide. That is also why In order to save ourselves nuclear must be shelved along with coal and dirty dirty oil. We cannot pollute at this level for very long before we become seriously endangered ourselves as a species with dwindling food supply and virtually no clean water left on the planet!
