Save Our Park and the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside—A Private-Public Partnership
In 2007, local citizens established Save Our Park, a 501(c)(3) organization based in Pinetop-Lakeside and dedicated to preserving and acquiring Woodland Lake Park for the Town.
While the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside recognizes all the many reasons why Woodland Park is important, it simply lacks the funds to buy the Park. Tax revenues are flat. though the Town has been and is committed to providing $250,000 annually for Park maintenance. This year it will spend an additional $50,000 to repave and make handicap accessible the trail that encircles the lake.
In addition to private donations, more than 30 local businesses sponsor the annual Walk for the Woods fundraising event. This has enabled the Save Our Park organization to pay for environmental-impact statements and appraisals and pledge $100,000 toward the purchase.
Barbara Teague, a former Town mayor and lead of a seven-member board of directors, has launched this Campaign for Woodland Lake Park. Join us in this worthwhile effort.
