Sex trafficking is an epidemic that many are unaware of or even choose to ignore. Seattle is ranked within the top 3 cities in North America for this growing problem. One out of every three runaway teens will be lured into sex trafficking within the first 48 hours of leaving home. Our mission at The Genesis Project is to see these numbers cease to exist as a whole, and in the meantime, continue to put every effort into rescuing these girls from their current situations. The average age of girls sold into sex trafficking is 12-14, and we have helped 120 of them, since 2011, find a hope for new life. See www.gpseattle.net for more information on what The Genesis Project does or to find out how to get involved!
The Freedom Walk 5K is an event that The Genesis Project puts on annually to raise funds and awareness about the issue of sex trafficking in the greater Puget Sound area. Though many are aware of the issue of human trafficking internationally, we strive to bring hope and awareness to the fact that human trafficking exists here in our own country and community. The sole purpose of the Freedom Walk is to do just that, bring awareness to the issue, raise funds to rescue, and bring full restoration to as many young girls and women who have fallen victim to sex trafficking as possible.
On July 19, 2014 at 10am, the event will take place at The Corridor, (2819 S. 208th St. SeaTac) where you will journey “In Her Shoes” as we walk 3.1 miles of the Pacific Highway in SeaTac, which is the same street that many girls and women work off of. Each participant of the 5K will be taken step by step through the experiences of one of the girls that we have seen restored. We strongly encourage Registrants to "Set Up a Fundraiser" and gain pledges from their family, friends, coworkers, and church congregations to raise money for The Genesis Project and our program! Be sure to register for the event here on Crowdrise!
If you are only looking to register then you can simply click “JOIN THE EVENT”, select "REGISTER FOR THE EVENT", select how many individuals you are registering for, and then click next. If you do not want to start or join a fundraiser then simply click “Skip This Step: I only want to register” in the upper right hand corner of the Set Up Your Fundraiser box. From here you can choose to login through a social media (ie. Facebook) OR you can create a CrowdRise account, but do not fear your information is safe, you will not need to fundraise or manage any account, this is simply for registration purposes. You then complete your registration by filling in your payment information through a secure payment method and you are ALL SET!
Join A Team: If you want to fundraise by joining a team you can simply click “Join a Team” and then select the team you would like to join. You then can have all of your friends and family donate to your team’s page and raise money all together! These teams are used for fundraising purposes ONLY, if you join a team you in NO WAY should feel obligated to act as a team for the event.
Create a Team: If you want to start your own Fundraising Team as a church/family/group of friends, then you can click that option and create a name for yourselves! You may then have whoever you’d like join your team and come up with a total of donations! Again, you in no way should feel obligated to act as a team at the event, the teams are for fundraising purposes ONLY.
Individual Fundraiser: If you decide to start an individual fundraiser then you can select that option and put your name (or even a made up name) on your fundraiser. You then just refer all of your friends and family to your own personal fundraising page to donate to the event.
WE CANNOT WAIT to see all of you at The Freedom Walk 2014, it is going to be an amazing event!
