Here's an easy list of organizations that are meaningful to Sarah and Josh--along with why they're meaningful. We'd love it if you'd consider supporting at least one of them to celebrate our marriage!
Partners in Health is an innovative group that provides access to skilled health care with "a preferential option for the poor". Originally founded by Ophelia Dahl, Paul Farmer, and Jim Kim to focus on work in Haiti, PIH has expanded its sites to Rwanda, Peru, Mexico, Malawi, Russia, and the Navajo Nation in the U.S. For more information about their programs, read Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder and visit their website: www.pih.org.
Rauschenbausch Metro Ministries runs out of the amazing Metro Baptist Church in Hell's Kitchen in New York City. Sarah lived and worked with them while she was in NYC, and loved seeing the importance that Metro placed on community care through their English to Speakers of Other Languages classes, food pantry, rooftop garden, after-school programs, and summer camps. For more information, please visit http://rmmnyc.org/.
The American Friends Service Committee is a Quaker service and social justice organization that seeks peace and justice as a part of spiritual practice. Sarah volunteered with the AFSC's Joint Service Project for two summers on the Pine Ridge Reservation. You can find out more about the organization here: www.afsc.org
